Location: Hybrid/Glasgow

Contract: 24 months (3 days per week)

Salary: £30,000 – £34,000 (pro rata), dependent on experience

The Good Food Scotland programme, run by Feeding Britain, is working toward a hunger-free Scotland in which everyone can afford and access the food they need for a healthy life. The programme consists of a growing and innovative network of affordable food clubs, known as Larders, serving a collective membership of more than 2,000 households.

Following two years of rapid growth and development, the programme is now establishing itself as an autonomous charity, operating within the wider Feeding Britain network, with a dedicated team of employees and volunteers in Scotland. 

We are therefore seeking an experienced finance professional, able to manage all aspects of finance and ensure the charity meets all its finance-related regulatory requirements, as well as cause driven, understanding and having an empathy for the work of Good Food Scotland and the wider Feeding Britain network.

Job Description

This is a key post in the organisation with sole responsibility for the finance functions including recording and processing all incoming / outgoing transactions, monitoring finances and producing monthly reports whilst being able to prioritise workloads in line with deadlines. We are a small, friendly team where everyone helps out so you need to enjoy working as a part of team, being prepared to pick up additional work and to help out at busy times. This role would suit someone who enjoys variety at work and the chance for your work to make a real impact.

Key Tasks

  • Financial Accounting including processing all income and outgoing transactions on behalf of Good Food Scotland and producing monthly management reports
  • Oversee monthly Payroll with external payroll company and report to HMRC
  • Oversee the annual audit
  • Support Good Food Scotland with HR functions and some admin work

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Responsible for all finance functions of the organisation including preparation of budgets, recording and processing all incoming/outgoing transactions, monitoring and controlling finances.
  • Manage the receipt, payment and record keeping for all invoices, direct debits/standing orders, credit cards, expenses, bank & cash and other expenditure, liaising with external suppliers and contractors as required.
  • Produce management accounts and associated reports as required by the Board of Trustees and monitor the budget.
  • Prepare the accounts for annual Audit and assist the auditing process.
  • Implement and monitor financial controls and develop financial policies and procedures as required.
  • Work with the Good Food Scotland Trustees and team managers to ensure the efficient and effective running of the organisation.

Person Specification

Essential

  • At least three years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Qualified/Part qualified Accountant or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficient in QuickBooks or similar Accounting System
  • Experience of working on your own initiative, under pressure and to deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a willingness to get involved with all aspects of the charity

Desirable

  • Experience of sole management of finance systems
  • Experience of working in a charity
  • Experience with grant management and reporting.
